The CSIR and ICMR held a high-level meeting in New Delhi to enhance collaboration in health research. Co-chaired by Dr. N. Kalaiselvi and Dr. Rajiv Bahl, the discussions centered on ongoing initiatives, wastewater surveillance enhancements, and the AcSIR–ICMR Ph.D. programme. Both organizations committed to intensifying collaborative efforts in key domains like biomedical sciences and environmental health. This meeting aims at creating an integrated roadmap to strengthen India's health research capabilities.

A strategic meeting took place at the CSIR Science Centre in New Delhi, where the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) convened to discuss strengthening their collaborative health research efforts. The meeting was co-chaired by Dr N. Kalaiselvi, Director General of CSIR, and Dr Rajiv Bahl, Director General of ICMR. Participants included directors from various CSIR and ICMR laboratories along with senior officials from both institutions.

The discussions focused on evaluating the ongoing collaborative initiatives, particularly highlighting the progress of CSIR molecules advancing into clinical trials and the status of ICMR-supported Centres of Advanced Research located within CSIR laboratories. Additionally, they reviewed the implementation of significant health projects that are crucial for medical advancements. A particular emphasis was placed on expanding wastewater surveillance for various pathogens within urban areas, healthcare facilities, and communities, which aligns with the One Health Mission aiming to integrate health across human, animal, and environmental domains.

The roles and responsibilities of both CSIR and ICMR in the development of innovative drugs and molecules were also clarified during the meeting. This included discussions on systematic clinical trials and leveraging ICMR’s facilities for large-animal toxicity testing, enhancing the quality and safety of new medications.

Another important topic was the review of the AcSIR–ICMR Ph.D. programme, which focuses on generating research talent and offering greater opportunities for emerging researchers. Plans to harmonize ICMR fellowships with CSIR fellowships are intended to enrich the academic landscape and foster dynamic research endeavors.

In conclusion, the meeting underscored a steadfast commitment by both CSIR and ICMR to deepen their collaboration, streamline project development, and broaden engagement in pivotal areas, including biomedical sciences, diagnostics, digital health, and environmental health surveillance. This integrated roadmap aims to elevate India’s capacity for impactful health research and innovation.
