The Gujarat Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) is currently investigating a significant terror plot involving a chemical agent known as Ricin. In connection with their investigation, the ATS conducted a series of searches at the home of Dr. Ahmed Mohiyuddin Saiyed, an arrested doctor from Hyderabad, as well as the residences of two other suspects in Uttar Pradesh. During these operations, officials seized various chemicals and raw materials, although no concrete evidence linking the suspects to the car blast incident in Delhi has been established so far.
The investigation intensified after the ATS apprehended three individuals, including Dr. Saiyed, who is believed to have been actively involved in the preparation of Ricin poison intended for a large-scale terrorist attack. The suspected network, which has links to the Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP), is said to have connections across national borders, including individuals in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Dr. Saiyed, who holds a medical degree from China, was found in possession of several firearms, including two Glock pistols and a Beretta, alongside ammunition and castor oil—an ingredient used in the production of Ricin.
As per ATS reports, Saiyed initiated research and the necessary procurement to synthesize this highly toxic poison, which can be derived from waste materials from castor beans. His handler, known as Abu Khadija, is supposedly based in Afghanistan and has been coordinating with other operatives linked to the ISKP. The other accused individuals, identified as Azad Suleman Sheikh and Mohammad Suhail Mohammad Saleem, are believed to have facilitated weapon procurement and supply for Dr. Saiyed’s activities.
The ATS has so far not found any incriminating evidence at the homes of Sheikh and Saleem in Uttar Pradesh. The case has been categorized under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), along with relevant provisions from the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita and the Arms Act. Dr. Saiyed has been remanded to ATS custody until November 17, as authorities continue to investigate the broader implications of this alleged terror plot. The seized chemicals have undergone forensic analysis to determine their composition and potential uses in illegal activities.
This incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding the emergence of chemical weapons in acts of terrorism and the need for continued vigilance against such threats.
