In a bid to curb the spread of dengue fever, the Health Department has initiated a comprehensive inspection and awareness campaign throughout the district. Civil Surgeon Ramandeep Kaur spearheads this effort, which aims to educate residents on preventive strategies while identifying potential mosquito-breeding locations. It is crucial to understand that the primary culprits for dengue transmission are mosquitoes that reproduce in clean, stagnant water found in various places such as coolers, drums, refrigerator trays, tires, and flowerpots.
In response to this health crisis, residents are being urged to maintain cleanliness in their surroundings to prevent water accumulation. Effective preventive measures include wearing full-sleeved clothing, applying mosquito repellents, installing mesh doors, and sleeping under mosquito nets. These actions are essential in reducing the risk of dengue infection.
Dr. Kaur has also outlined the common symptoms associated with dengue fever, which include a high fever, headaches, muscle and joint pain, as well as discomfort behind the eyes. She emphasizes the importance of seeking medical attention promptly. Individuals experiencing these symptoms are encouraged to visit the nearest government health facility, where free testing and treatment are available at all health centers and Aam Aadmi Clinics in the district.
To further raise awareness, District BCC coordinator Barjinder Singh Brar held an informative session at Singh Sabha Senior Secondary School in Model Town. During this event, students and faculty were educated about dengue prevention methods, highlighting the necessity of community involvement in tackling this public health issue.
This ongoing effort by the Health Department demonstrates a proactive approach to control dengue and protect the well-being of the community, making education and vigilance key components of their strategy.
