The Kodak Snapic A1, priced at $99, is a newly launched point-and-shoot film camera developed by Reto, a company renowned for its previous hit, the Charmera camera. Unlike some of its predecessors which simply aimed for aesthetic appeal, the Snapic A1 offers genuine functionality, marking Reto's first venture into the world of full-frame 35mm film cameras. This camera integrates modern features designed to enhance the shooting experience.
The compact dimensions of the Snapic A1 measure 118 x 62 x 24mm, and it operates using two AAA batteries, which Reto claims can support approximately ten rolls of 24 exposure film. Weighing in at 117 grams, it is light and portable, making it an ideal choice for on-the-go photography aficionados.
A standout feature of the Snapic A1 is its lens, which incorporates three glass elements offering high quality and promising "stunning clarity and detail". This 25mm f/9.5 lens has fixed zone focus settings, allowing photographers to capture sharp images within defined distance ranges: either from 1.5 meters to infinity or 0.5 to 1.5 meters. The deep depth of field enabled by this design implies that only two focusing zones are necessary.
The Snapic A1 operates with a fixed shutter speed of 1/100 second. In conditions with low lighting, the automatic flash comes into play, which has a guide number of roughly 8. This flash can be manually controlled, providing the option to turn it on or off whenever needed. The camera also features a red-eye reduction light which is especially beneficial for portrait photography in dim environments.
On its top surface, the camera includes a small OLED screen that displays important information such as battery life, focus settings, zone focus position, and the remaining shots left on the film roll.
Another impressive feature of the Snapic A1 is its multiple exposure capability, which allows users to take two shots on a single 35mm frame—ideal for creative double exposures. This feature is easily activated through a switch located just below the shutter button. Additionally, the flash can be used simultaneously during this mode, broadening the creative possibilities for photographers.
The Kodak Snapic A1 comes in two colors, “Rhino Grey” and “Ivory White”, and includes a strap and pouch for convenience. It is expected to ship starting in December 2025, catering to those who seek a blend of modern technology and classic film photography at an accessible price point.
