The highly anticipated next-generation Kia Seltos is set to make its world debut on December 10. This model is designed to challenge competitors like the Hyundai Creta and will officially launch in India in 2026, replacing the first-generation Seltos introduced in 2019. Named codename SP3, the new Seltos is expected to significantly improve on its predecessor in several areas, including powertrains, platform, and technology enhancements.
The new Kia Seltos will reportedly share its platform with the latest Creta, promising improved ride and handling characteristics. Various powertrain options will be available globally, including pure petrol and petrol-hybrid variants. For the Indian market, it is anticipated that a diesel engine option may also be offered, catering to a wider range of consumer preferences. Furthermore, discussions are underway about incorporating an e-AWD (electric all-wheel drive) system, though its availability in the Indian variant is yet to be confirmed.
One of the most exciting features of the new Seltos is its potential introduction of a petrol-hybrid powertrain. This will place the model in direct competition with emerging players like the Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder, both of which emphasize high fuel efficiency and reduced emissions. Kia is evaluating these hybrid options for the Indian market, aiming to introduce the Seltos as one of the first locally manufactured models equipped with such technology.
In terms of design, the new Kia Seltos is set to depart significantly from the styling of the original model. It will feature the latest design philosophies seen in other Kia vehicles worldwide, such as the EV5 and the refreshed Telluride. The new Seltos will boast a more upright and boxy design, highlighted by a wide grille adorned with vertical slats resembling those present on the Telluride. Inside, buyers can expect substantial upgrades, including higher quality materials, enhanced technology, and increased cabin space along with an extensive array of features to improve comfort and convenience.
Slated for release next year, the new Kia Seltos will enter the burgeoning mid-size SUV segment alongside formidable competitors like the Tata Sierra, Hyundai Creta, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, Citroen C3X, VW Taigun, and Skoda Kushaq, among others. The renewed focus on hybrid technology and modern design is set to position the Seltos favorably within this competitive market, reinforcing Kia's commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction in India.
